Carrying on from our last part here are some more ways to stop Email spam. These are more measures to prevent email spam occurring in the first place.

Never ever reply to emails:
I know the urge sometimes is to email the spammer back and tell them to go to hell but you will never get a reply and it is likely by replying you will alert the spammer that your email is active and you will receive even more spam! This incde, ludes forwarding chain letters these can be honeypots and if you forward a chain letter you could be doing the spammers work for him and giving them all your friends emails

Never click any links in a spam email:
If at all possible dont even open the spam email, Spammers are quite smart and will often track clicks on links or even track if you have opened there email, by doing this you are telling them that your email is active and are opening yourself up for even more spam.

Don’t give your email out to online retailers/newsletters
This is one that is hard to avoid as if you regularly buy stuff online then you will have to give out your email address, these companies often sell your email on to others or bombard you with offers from there other sites. My recommendation is to setup a separate email address for all your online purchases, this is easy just sign up to Google/yahoo and make your email, use this email for all your online purchases. This will allow you to keep personal emails spam free.

Never post your email on the Internet:
I mean never! people use programs to hunt down emails posted on websites, if you must post your email simply separate it out like myname(AT)yahoo.com this stop email harvesters from getting your email.

Free & easy ways to stop spam (part 1)

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Email spam is one of the most annoying things in the world, i prefer to get snail mail spam as at least Iam never fooled and their are no risks involved in opening it. Where as email spam  can hold all sorts of nasties such as viruses, spyware & even those annoying Viagra & penis enlargement ads, i already know my penis is to small i don’t want to make it bigger! And even if i did i wouldn’t be taking the advise of some email spammer to get it done! So if email spam annoys you and it’s getting out of hand then here are some free ways to stop or reduce the amount of spam you get, now checking email will not be an unpleasant chore anymore.

Change your email account to a Yahoo/Google email:
Both these services have very good spam protection, even though some minor ones get past you can simply click “mark as spam” and it will make any future messages from this user right into the spam bin. Although changing your email is not ideal for everyone because you have to inform everyone of your email change, but this is great if you only use email to contact close family and friends, Also sometime the spam filters on these services can be very strict and sometimes filter out email you want to read (so check that spam bin every so often!)

MailWasher (Freeware)
Mailwasher is ideal if you are using desktop based software to check your email (such as outlook express). It’s free and easy to install & setup, you can setup blacklists and filters to filter out undesirable emails so just put in emails/keywords that you dont want to receive emails from and this program will process your email before it hits the software your using. The bad thing about this is the Freeware is limited to only one account so if you have multiple POP3 accounts setup this software really would not be ideal for you.
